Program Activities
PHI is unique in addressing the direct-care workforce crisis from both a practice and a policy perspective, since changes in both arenas are required in order to realize PHI's Nine Essential Elements of a Quality Job.
Our work integrates advocacy for public policies and resources that will support better wages and career opportunities for direct-care workers with practical assistance to providers and others who are searching for new ways to recruit, train, supervise and support workers so that they can deliver quality care to consumers.
For an introduction to PHI’s dual approach to addressing the workforce crisis, see Finding and Keeping Direct Care Staff.

National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce
The National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce supports efforts to improve the quality of jobs for frontline workers who assist people who are elderly and/or living with disabilities. Founded by PHI, in cooperation with the Direct Care Alliance, the Clearinghouse acts as PHI's center for research and analysis and a centralized resource center for individuals and organizations concerned with the growing workforce crisis in long-term care.
